I read the main book a while back and do read quite a bit on nutrition and health, especially for those with chronic illnesses. I've been meaning to try the cookbook for ages and was thrilled to see it was on a kindle deal at amazon. I usually but hardcopy but the app makes it easy to make notes as I go along. I'm looking forward to trying out lots of recipes. There's so many I like the sound of right away that I know some will no doubt need lots of notes as I make them again and again.
One thing that is disappointing and massively frustrating for me is that there isn't a nutritional breakdown for the recipes and portions. Pretty much all the cookbooks I have these days do include them, and with Dr Greger's emphasis on whole food nutrients and balance of different elements, I was very surprised to not be able to find the info either in the book or elsewhere. It's not just for interest and information, as I need to be able to know how many carbohydrate grams are in a recipe in order to calculate the correct insulin dose (I'm type 1 diabetic). The fat and fibre gram portion content can also have a bearing on my insulin dosage. I know that making real whole plant-based food can assist with my blood sugar control, but it's hard to make accurate estimates on homemade meals without the portion nutritional info, and may decrease the amount I can practically use these recipes. Packaged and processed foods are so much easier with all the info on hand, but I'm committed to getting more real food in me! If anyone can point me to where the recipes are, alongside the nutritional info, or if anyone knows of a web db that has done the combining and calculating I would very much love to know! The recipes look so great and what I like, so I don't want to miss out.
Excellent resource for refining your vegan options as one travels the healthy diet path. I lost my first copy (long story) and ordered a replacement along with another copy as a gift.
This book is just what I needed to make a turnaround in life. I'm using this book to go from conventional eating to healthy living. I have only a couple problems that maybe pertains more to a person like me not used to this sort of eating. It would have been nice to have an itemized shopping list in the front right away instead of page 229. It took me a couple weeks to find it after I manually went through the book and made the shopping list. First page would have been perfect. Otherwise I really love the book and practicality of the recipes. I think anyone switching conventional to healthy would really love this book.
