Kraft paper is a vegan material we selected for being attractive, sturdy, sustainable, and eco-friendly. The wood pulp that goes into making the kraft paper is sourced from FSC-certified sustainable forests. This wallet is also offered in Black Microfiber and Black Crossgrain Microfiber.

Founder's Editorial: Kraft Paper Compared to Cork
Cork products have gained popularity in recent years, but our research shows cork isn't actually a strong eco-friendly or vegan option, since the backing - typically polyester - makes up most of the material. The cork itself is a thin layer glued onto that backing, representing only a small portion of the overall thickness. We consider kraft paper, which is composed of at least 50% cellulose (sometimes as much as 80%), to be a considerably more environmentally sound choice. We previously worked with cork but discontinued it several years ago after gaining a clearer understanding of how it's made. We would consider using it again if a version without a polyester backing becomes available.

We hold a similar view on cactus leather and apple leather. Although both are technically vegan, we avoid using them because they contain only small amounts of actual cactus or apple material, with a backing material making up most of the product.

Materials

Kraft paper is a vegan material that we came across that checks our boxes for being beautiful, durable, and both sustainable and eco-friendly. The wood pulp used for the kraft paper come from sustainable sources that are FSC certified.
